Martin's 1st Letter to Henry Locksley
Henry --
I'm not working for Mr. Jenner anymore; I think he's gotten a bit impatient with me. Hold the sinecure for now, sweet brother; my health's not nearly better yet. (1) For reasons of my own I'm actually trying not to be so overcome with mysterious maladies as previous; maybe initiative will succeed where inertia's failed. (2)
If it's the sort of thing you're allowed to tell a business partner politely over cocktails, tell Mr. Cooper he's better off without Lillian. She's a bit of a loony, and I mean this in the most generous possible way -- she's very charming, in the way women are, but I suspect she's going to spend large portions of her life traveling to darkest Africa. Mr. Cooper's sedentary (orange groves are sedentary, right?) (3) ambitions might have to take a backseat with her.
If he persists, tell him she's taken up relations with a tribesman in Ethiopia. Hopefully that will scare him? (4)
Ha! Joyce and I were roommates with Ida Lupino, briefly. Guess she's not staying with Lucille Ball anymore, if she's managed to get anything out of that contract.
-Martin

(1) Yeah I'm trying to get away from Mr. Jenner but I can probably do it on my own or at least I'd like to try.
(2) I'm actually trying to crack some of my addictions now, which is different from what I was previously doing.
(3) Obvious joke. Martin cracks bad jokes sometimes.
(4) Martin thinks this might be A) funny or B) helpful. Oh Martin.
(5) Notably he mentions nothing about Bangkok. What is he going to say, 'I got my dead lover back but his brain was in a jar and then I made a deal with an evil alien to get it out'?
