Important Details of 1940 from Session 4

Father Andrei

  • Father Andrei = Edward Kelley = John Dee
  • He rescued Roma and Jewish children from a secret part of Fort Jilava.
  • He claims there are more children being held prisoner there, and no adults being held prisoner. The children agree with the first, but not the second.
  • He intends to go back to Fort Jilava to rescue more children.
  • He's carrying around a large book which the children, if asked, think is

his bible.

Major Doering and Baron Vordenburg

  • Major Doering, a German who was an expert on Romanian Railway Communication during the Great War, is here.
  • He is going to visit Fort Jilava in company of a man calling himself Baron Vordenburg.
  • Supposedly, a Baron Vordenburg helped destroy Carmilla, but the folks from 1894 think he was turned by her. There is no conclusive proof that this is true or that this Baron Vordenburg is that one.

Sarah and Alraune

  • Sarah Quarrie, child of Vito's mistress (whom Vito killed, with help from Joyce and Douglas) and her husband (whom Vito or Gregory killed) is in Bucharest.
  • She is traveling with a woman named Alraune ten Brinker, and they are lovers.
  • Alraune responded to "Joshua"'s flirting, to Sarah's chagrin.
  • Alraune is searching for her cousin, Frank Braun, who was the 16 year old kid who brought Hildescheim to Liesl under Dracula's instructions and was likely working for MINA.
  • Alraune means "mandrake" in German.
  • Frank Braun learned from Sir John Dee that the wife swapping episode was all about making a mandrake person (Theodorus Trebonianus Dee).
  • Frank Braun was brought to Fort Jilava as a prisoner.
  • Alraune has told Joshua she would do anything for help releasing cousin Frank.

Lupescu's Journal

  • Lupescu, mistress of King Carol II, and living in exile with him, was (unbeknownst to him) secretly a member of Liesl's organization, Ahnachnu Zochrim (We Remember).
  • She collected icons. Vito sorted out the ones that were old enough to affect Dracula.
  • She opposed King Carol's estranged wife, Queen Helen (Elena), who she feared would bring supernatural evil to Romania.
  • She was glad when Codreanu and his 13 companions died, as she feared they would become something supernatural and evil.
  • Of course, their bodies were just exhumed and supposedly reburied (this was closed casket, so there's no proof).
  • She feared that the heart of Queen Marie of Romania interred in Bessarabia was not the woman's actual heart, but rather, some dark stone of evil power.
  • Folks know that Dracula seems interested in another dark stone, having compelled the Munshi to give it to him, but it was stolen from him by Gertrude Bell. He wants it back.
  • Sibiu Mountains are a place of pilgrimage for the Iron Guards. This is the area where the Scholomance is said to be.
