On the Map Sheet

  1. Draw a square for your Lead (your PC).
  2. Draw arrows from your Lead to the other Leads, representing Relationships with those Leads, but don't label the arrows yet.

On Your Character Sheet

Pick one of: Rich, Ordinary, Gifted, Strange, or Alien/Metahuman.

Rich

  1. Think about: What was your family like? Were you close to your parents, or did you spend quality time with a nanny? What expectations did your family have for you, and how did that make you feel?
  2. Either step up Duty and Power by one step each, or step up one of them by two steps.
  3. Add a new Distinction (recommended: Cosmopolitan, Family Reputation, or Wealthy).
  4. Step up a Resource (an Extra or a Location, but at this point you'll only have one Extra and no Locations, so there's not really a choice here).
  5. Step up a Relationship (with another Lead or a Feature), an Asset (a Distinction or Ability), or a Resource (an Extra or a Location).
  6. Go on to the Youth stage. Pick one of: Paragon, Jock, or Average.

Ordinary

  1. Think about: Did you have the standard nuclear family? What did your parents do for a living?
  2. Either step up Love and Justice by one step each, or step up one of them by two steps. (Note: The chart has the wrong Values. This is the only Origin that steps up either Love or Justice.)
  3. Add a new Distinction (recommended: Likable, Not Born Yesterday, or Right Place, Right Time).
  4. Step up a Relationship (with another Lead or a Feature).
  5. Step up a Relationship (with another Lead or a Feature), an Asset (a Distinction or Ability), or a Resource (an Extra or a Location).
  6. Go on to the Youth stage. Pick one of: Jock, Average, or Geek.

Gifted

  1. Think about: What was your gift? Music? Math? Art? Science? Running at three hundred miles an hour? Did your parents nurture your gift, or were you made to feel ashamed? When did you first realize you were exceptional?
  2. Either step up Glory and Truth by one step each, or step up one of them by two steps.
  3. Add a new Distinction (recommended: Clever, Genius, or Mastermind).
  4. Add a new Distinction or step up a Distinction.

  6. Go on to the Youth stage. Pick one of: Jock, Average, or Paragon.

Strange

  1. Think about: What makes you strange? Are you odd because of your parents? Despite them? What are they like?
  2. Either step up Glory and Power by one step each, or step up one of them by two steps.
  3. Add a new Distinction (recommended: Impulsive, In Over Your Head, or Smartass).
  4. Step up a Resource (an Extra or a Location).
  5. Step up a Relationship (with another Lead or a Feature), an Asset (a Distinction or Ability), or a Resource (an Extra or a Location).
  6. Go on to the Youth stage. Pick one of: Geek, Outsider, or Paragon.

Alien/Metahuman

  1. Think about: Were you born on Earth? If not, what was it like on your home world, and how did you and/or your parents come here? What's your heritage? Did you grow up knowing it?
  2. Either step up Duty and Truth by one step each, or step up one of them by two steps.
  3. Add a new Heritage.
  4. Add a new Ability or step up a Heritage.
  5. Add a new Distinction (recommended: Cosmopolitan, Extraterrestrial Knowledge, or Gearhead).
