From Dr. Keaton's Files on Lillian
Patient Progress Record for Lillian Avery
Doctor: Dr. Keaton
This is a spoiled, entitled little rich girl who likes attention. She claims that she suffers from hallucinations and disillusion, but she can easily distinguish between reality and the products of her own mind. In fact, all she has is a highly active imagination, and an overdeveloped set of 'feminine intuitions.' This has the unfortunate side effect of making her remarkably adept at manipulating people. She is also uncannily perceptive about being lied to (as women and animals often are). She becomes very resistant to therapy if she believes that the asylum staff are attempting to deceive her.
She suffers from the sort of moderate neuroses that one should not be surprised to find in a woman of her age and class. Marrying her off to a stable man who will give her appropriate discipline and tame her repressed sexual urges will solve those problems, as well as ensure that she moves past her fantasies of incest. It is hardly surprising that she suffers from these issues, as this is common in women of too much leisure and insufficient responsibility. She has never had to outgrow her infantile desires.
She also suffers from the sort of moderate neuroses that one should not be surprised to find in a woman of her age and class, expressed primarily as a preoccupation with morbid subject matter and belief in faddish spiritualism. Again, once she marries a stable man, she will find herself with an anchor and without the excess of leisure that allows her to indulge in such foolish fads.
Despite her sense of entitlement, she is not particularly disruptive, and Joy Grove can only help her to find a sense of stability and begin to put childish things away. Therefore, it is recommended that she stay as long as possible, as she needs a strong routine and a strong authority figure, and Joy Grove can make good use of the funds this brings to us.
